Divest Pittsburgh Proposes Model Legislation
Urges Pittsburgh to Put Paris Principles in Action
While international leaders gathered in Paris to craft an ambitious climate framework, Divest Pittsburgh drafted a legislative framework for municipal divestment and sent it to Mayor Peduto and City Council.
The legislation would provide a responsible way to put our principles in action. The ordinance would:
- Divest the city from fossil fuels within five years.
- Provide financial managers with the flexibility to safeguard the City’s investments.
- Make Pittsburgh an international leader in climate justice.
This draft legislation comes on the heels of Mayor Peduto’s bold endorsement of fossil fuel divestment. Hundreds of Pittsburghers have come together to urge the City to divest, expressing hope that this will be a first step towards combating climate change.
